1K-Star 'Remove AI Taste' Skill
AI Makes Mess, AI Cleans It

A design skill for Claude Code/Cursor that makes webpages 'not look AI-generated.' Gained 1,000 stars in one day — the 'AI taste' is so bad we need another AI to fix it, which itself is very AI.

Friends, today's AI circle punchline could easily serve as the foreword to "The Big Book of Absurd AI Moments 2026."

A design skill blew up on GitHub, gaining 1,000 stars in a single day. What does this skill do? Its goal is simple — for use with Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex, it makes the webpages they generate "not look like they were made by AI." In other words, it's an AI that "de-AI-ifies" things.

When I first saw this project, I froze for three seconds, then laughed out loud. AI-generated stuff has such a strong "AI taste" that we need another AI to remove the AI taste — what is this, Russian nesting dolls?

What Exactly Is 'AI Taste'?

What is "AI taste"? Anyone who's done design, written code, or seen AI-generated content probably knows it intuitively, but it's hard to describe precisely.

In web design, "AI taste" looks roughly like this: border-radius is always 12px, box shadows are always that "not too dark, not too light, just right" AI aesthetic, color schemes are always blue-purple gradients, buttons always say "Get Started," hero sections are always "big headline on the left, illustration on the right," icons are always line icons from the same icon library, spacing is always multiples of 8px…

It's not that it looks bad. It's that it's too "correct" — correct to the point of having no soul. Like a person with perfectly proportioned features whom you can never remember — everything is in the right place, but there's nothing distinctive about them. AI-generated design is like that: every element follows design specs, but put together it's just "instantly recognizable as AI."

The funnier part is, this "remove AI taste" skill itself was written by AI. The example code in its README is AI-generated. Its design principles are learned from countless design websites. It might even be tested using another AI. The whole chain is: AI generates design → AI detects AI taste → AI writes a skill to remove AI taste → AI uses the skill to remove AI taste → and the result… probably still tastes like AI.

Here's the analogy: you hire a cook, and everything he makes tastes like "meal kit flavor." So you hire another chef specifically to "remove the meal kit flavor" — except the second chef was also trained on meal kits. Think about it. Really think about it.

What's So Absurd About This

The reason this "remove AI taste" skill is both funny and viral is that it precisely hits a collective pain point in current AI design: everyone's using AI for design, everyone thinks AI-made stuff all looks the same, and everyone keeps using it anyway.

Why? Because it's fast. It used to take a designer a week to make a landing page. Now you generate one with Cursor in minutes. Sure it has AI taste, but "something is better than nothing," "ship first, optimize later," "we'll hire a designer to fix it when we have budget" — and then there is no later.

So the visual style of the entire internet is converging at a pace visible to the naked eye. It used to be that every website had its own personality — some were cool, some cute, some geeky, some elegant. Now? Open ten SaaS product websites, and eight might have been generated by the same AI — similar colors, similar layouts, similar illustration styles, even similar tones in the copy.

The most ironic part? This very "remove AI taste" skill is being forked like crazy on GitHub and integrated into all kinds of AI coding tools. Soon AI will automatically apply this skill when generating webpages, producing "de-AI-ified" designs — but when everyone uses the same "de-AI-ification" template, doesn't "de-AI-ification" itself become the new AI taste?

"When AI taste becomes ubiquitous enough, 'removing AI taste' becomes the new AI taste. It's an infinite loop with no exit."— The Cao Editorial Desk

Of course, jokes aside, the fact that this skill gained 1,000 stars in a day means the demand is real. People are genuinely sick of cookie-cutter AI design, and they genuinely need ways to make AI output more distinctive and more human.

But I still want to remind everyone of a few things:

1. AI is a tool, not a designer. If you don't know what good design looks like yourself, AI won't know either. Want unique design? Improve your own taste first.

2. The best way to 'remove AI taste' is to add human judgment. Not to use another AI to do the judging for you. Even the best skill is just a set of rules. Real design sense comes from human aesthetics and experience.

3. Don't stress too much about AI taste. Honestly, most products die not because their design tastes like AI, but because the product itself sucks. Once your product works, hiring a good designer to fix the design is never too late.

Alright, that's enough cao for today. More tomorrow.
